The greatest wealth is to live content with little.

The Leibniz Temple in Hannover is a round pavilion built in 1787–1790 to honor Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. It was the first monument in Germany for a non-noble person.

Originally, the temple stood at Waterlooplatz, but it was moved in 1935–1936 to its current location in the park (Georgengarten). The building is made of sandstone and has twelve simple Ionic columns.

Inside the temple stands a bust of Leibniz. The original marble sculpture was removed for protection after repeated vandalism and is now kept in a museum; today, a copy is displayed in the temple.

The monument bears the inscription “GENIO LEIBNITII” (“To the genius of Leibniz”). It is located on a small island surrounded by water and is a popular meeting place, especially for visitors, picnics, and couples. It is also a well-known location for wedding photographs because of its romantic setting.
